Question by KayKay: Could my Asthma be coming back? 10 points to first help!?
Hi, I was just hoping to maybe shed some light on this situation I seem to be having lately. When I was around 4, I was diagnosed with asthma and severe allergies. Things like dust and pollen would set off my allergies and ultimately set my asthma off. I was given allergy shots from the time I was age 5 until around age 10 or 11. I used the inhaler, the “breathing treatment” machine as I knew it as a child, and I also took allergy medicine every day. I had one very bad asthma attack when I was 8 years old and had to spend three days in the hospital. After that episode, I had no problems with my asthma ever again and I am now 20 years old. Recently, I have noticed that I get very winded easily and I feel like a big weight is on my chest. I don’t necessarly have trouble breathing, more like trouble taking a deep breath for a few seconds. It doesn’t make much since to me since I exercise and it never seems to cause me much problem but random times, I will get short of breath doing the most simple of tasks such as walking to the mailbox or getting up out of the tub. I’ve also had these chest pains for about a year now. They only last for a few minutes and are right under my left breastbone. Before the shortness of breath, I assumed it was my heart causing problems but now i’m starting to think it was my lungs all along. I’m just curious if it could be my asthma returning since I had such a problem as a child or if it could be something else. Also, i’d like to mention that I was told the pollen in my area is higher this year than it has been in a long time. I’m not sure if that has any relevance but it might. Thanks!
