Question by Angelia: Help for asthma problems?

I’ve had asthma for most of my life. I had a lot of problems with it growing up, despite being on medications, inhalers, and breathing treatments. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had less problems with it until recently. I don’t know what’s caused the change but over the last couple months I’ve been having to use my inhaler more and take more breathing treatments (I take Advair 250/50 twice daily and Albuterol breathing treatments three or four times daily – it used to be maybe once a day). I’m now on Singular daily as well. I don’t have asthma “attacks” per se, but my lungs often feel tight.

Any suggestions on what else I could do?

I always use my rescue inhaler more often in the colder months, and I also use Advair 250/50 and Singuair. I’ve heard that it helps to drink hot black coffee, and that usually works for me, as does a humidifier because the air is so much drier in the winter. You may also try to concentrate on taking deep breaths instead of reaching for the inhaler or breathing treatments every time your chest feels tight. Sometimes just calming down and adjusting my posture can ease an attack just a little bit. I know it’s very scary not to be able to breathe, I feel your pain, and I hope you feel better soon.
