Question by Mike: Taking ADD/ADHD and meds going into the military (ROTC)?
Okay so full story,
I am not on any medication YET!
I have been wanting to get on ADD/ADHD medication for a couple years now because I have moderate ADD. I found it to be quite difficult to concentrate during a long test like the ACT or SAT or when I’m doing something I do not like, which i wouldn’t really need in the military because I’ll love what I’m doing. So I am a Junior in High school and i want to apply for an ROTC scholarship, but i do not know if they check for ADD/ADHD medication until my sophomore year in college when you officially sign up for the military or this year when i take the physical tests to recieve the scholarship. If it is this year I’d rather suffer through another year of high school not on meds than risk not going into ROTC.
“Those medically diagnosed with asthma or who have been prescribed Ritalin or any other medication for ADD and/or ADHD at any point in their life may be precluded from military service, but they may be waived depending on diagnosis and treatment.”

a. Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (314), or Perceptual/Learning Disorder(s) (315) does not meet the standard, unless applicant can demonstrate passing academic performance and there has been no use of medication(s) in the previous 12 months.
